WOW!!!! What a great day. All of you who participated in our National River Clean up event were fabulous. People from all parts of the community made this event possible.

We would like to thank The Marina Cafe for the use of their facilities, the Daily News for publicity, and MCAS New River Marina and Sturgeon City for donating canoes. Special thanks to Jimmy Harris for assisting us in disposing of the refuse removed from the river.

Almost 60 people came out to support our efforts on the water today. Some volunteers came with their own equipment, including power boats. Others came with no idea which end of a canoe was which. There were 5 students from area schools, 30 Marines from Supply School at Camp Johnson, and 21 other volunteers from all over Onslow County. Your efforts made this event! Your sense of civic responsibility and desire to improve a local resource were refreshing.

For those who were not able to participate, it is not too late to help. We conduct Eco tours and smaller clean-ups on weekends with church groups, scouts, and others who want to volunteer. For those who are interested in membership or who would like to provide monetary support, you can join or make a donation to the New River Foundation at http://www.newriverfoundation-onslow.org/html/joining_the_new_river_foundati.html

To schedule an Eco Tour or clean-up contact a member of our board by going to http://www.newriverfoundation-onslow.org/html/new_river_foundation_board_mem.html and sending an email, or call our office at (910) 937-0877.
